Four top Washington metropolitan area floral designers go shears to shears in a live design competition at this year’s Flower Mart 2015. This event, named Iron Florist, will be DC’s first ever competition of its kind. Come cheer to help your favorite designer win the Audience Favorite award and see who wins the coveted Iron Florist 2015 title!
Today, we unveil a member of the all-star cast at Iron Florist 2015. Without further ado, we present: Mary Beth Buchholz of Free Spirit Floral in Alexandria, VA.
Mary Beth has had a passion for flower arranging since childhood, gathering flowers from the garden and refining her skill over the years. According to the shop owner, she followed her dream of creating a floral design business after years of juggling floral design, family life, and full-time work in downtown DC. Focused on celebrations, holidays, and special occasions, her flourishing shop really does embrace the idea of the “free spirit!”
Just like us, Mary Beth looks forward to Iron Florist as an opportunity to interact with fellow flower lovers. In a brief interview, she says: “Floral design, like art, is so subjective. I don’t take myself too seriously, but I do feel passionate about the ability to express myself or the emotions of our customers to their loved ones through flowers.”
As for coping with the pressure of the exciting challenging ahead, Mary Beth simply plans to bring focus and a smile!
We’re looking forward to seeing Mary Beth among our talented florist contestants and you at Iron Florist on Saturday, May 2. Below, you’ll find a few Free Spirit Floral designs. Stick around the main stage right at 11 a.m. to see Mary Beth in action!
