In commemoration of the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Tokyo to Washington, DC, we celebrate the National Cherry Blossom Festival every year here at Bloompop HQ.
Given as a gesture of friendship and goodwill, these cherry trees have been the symbol of an annual springtime festival ever since. According to the festival website, there are now about 3,750 trees growing on National Park Service land.
This year’s festival, held from March 20 to April 12, is planned to coincide as nearly as possible with the blooming of the trees. The city-wide event attracts visitors from all over the country for cultural performances, parades, and the experience of walking under the thousands of pastel pink blooms.
Fun fact! Our first ladies have been historically involved in the festival, as well. First Lady Michelle Obama, for example, planted a cherry tree among guests as Honorary Chair in 2012.
We rounded up arrangements from our Florist Partners that remind us of one of our favorite springtime celebrations. Let us know how you plan to celebrate Spring on our Facebook or Twitter and see you at the festival!
